"Texas Gold" Bars
These also go by the name of chess squares or gooey butter cake, but no matter what you call them, they're absolutely unforgettable. This recipe for "Texas Gold" Bars is a recipe for chess squares that uses yellow cake mix, so they're super easy to make. The bars are super buttery and moist, and will practically melt in your mouth. Make these for any occasion - they're a true crowd-pleaser.

My sweet tooth is totally ruling our meals at the moment, lol! One totally delicious, decadent dessert after another. The children are delighted, of course, but my waistline says STOP. I am almost embarrassed to say we topped ours with some homemade chocolate sauce but, even without it, this Texas Gold Bars recipe is completely luscious!

I'm familiar with the recipe for the St. Louis Gooey Butter Cake (which I missed out on when I visited St. Louis) and this does look similar. I've not yet tried to make this up, but it definitely looks rich and I have a feeling a small piece with a cup of tea would be quite satisfying. Looking forward to giving this a try soon since I have all the necessary stuff in the kitchen.

Whatever this recipe is called it sure sounds good. I like that it has different layers with complimenting textures. I love that mix of textures for some reason kind of like sweet and salty, but smooth and flaky. I think I will be making this dessert in the very near future.

I've heard of gooey butter cake, but not Texas Gold Bars. Either way, this stuff is amazing! But of course something with lots of sugar and butter is great! Grace333, I think you have the right idea to make this for Christmas. At least that way we won't be the only ones eating it (it's THAT GOOD!)

If this is anything like the ooey gooey butter cake thing I have, it has to be outstanding. I think people are shocked by how few ingredients something has and simple stuff but together it is an out of body experience. I am hoping this is close to the cake. We just recently decided to make the cake for Christmas rather than a traditional pie. These might make a nice appetizer to lead up to the cake!
