Can I use brown rice in this recipe instead of the white rice? I am trying to be as health conscious as I can. I don't use white flour anymore either. I think the brown rice will be good in these meatballs especially since they are going to cook in the crock pot.

Yes,, Basmati long grain brown works well with this.. Cook the rice first though.. I use lean ground round, ground pork, and country sausage together.. 1 "LG" union,, jumbo egg,, Fresh sage, rosemary... For the Sause,, I use pizza sauce,, 2 large jars, (it's thicker) and roasted tomatoes 1 cn.. 2 large cans of stems pieces..

It is confusing regarding whether the rice is cooked or not. I would imagine that if it is not cooked, being in the slow cooker, it would most definitely cook but what does that do to the meatballs? Will they retain their shape? This does sound like a great recipe though and I would like to try it. I am thinking that if you used cooked rice it won't ruin the recipe at all?

Am I right in thinking that you use uncooked rice in this recipe? I suppose there is plenty of liquid so it will swell up alright, but I have never tried this before. I am looking forward to experimenting and if this works I will probably have a go with chicken too!

Great-an easy meatball recipe! I will be trying this, but I don't like rosemary, so I will omit that. Does anyone know of another herb or spice I could substitute? Meatballs are usually associated with appetizers, but I could make them as a main course with noodles or mashed potatoes.
