Dr. Pepper Poke Cake
This Dr. Pepper Poke Cake is sure to become your new, favorite poke cake recipe of all time. If you love this classic soda, this cake will take your taste buds straight to the soda shop. Ingredients
- 1 box chocolate cake mix
- 1 (12-ounce) can Cherry Dr. Pepper
- 1 (11-ounce) jar hot fudge sauce
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, room temp
- 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 cups confectioners' sugar
- pinch of sea salt
- 2 tablespoons maraschino cherry juice from the jar
- Maraschino cherries for top of cake

Instructions

Heat oven to 350 F. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.

In a large mixing bowl combine the cake mix and the Dr. Pepper until well combined and smooth.

Pour batter into baking pan and bake for 25 minutes until done when a wooden skewer inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean.

With the end of a wooden spoon poke holes all over the cake.

Warm the hot fudge and pour all over the cake.

Prepare the frosting. In the bowl of a stand mixer beat the butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy about 3-4 minutes. Mix in the vanilla. Add in the confectioners’ sugar a bit at a time until incorporated. Mix in the salt.

Add the cherry juice and mix until combined.

Evenly spread the frosting over the cake and top with the maraschino cherries.

For easier cutting chill the cake for an hour.

Dr Pepper is just way too sweet for me to drink on its own so I prefer the diet version but I think the unique flavor it has would be amazing and will complement the chocolate cake perfectly...the cherries are just a bonus! And, because I'm not a big chocolate eater I'll probably make this without the hot fudge and am betting it'll still be just as lovely.

I was a little hesitant about the Dr. Pepper at first, but I really enjoyed this cake )
