Grandgirl's Apple Cake is a sweet treat that both you and your grandchildren will adore. This fabulous recipe, adapted from butter-loving Paula Deen, makes the best apple cake you will ever eat. It is so moist with just the right amount of spices. With hints of cinnamon, orange, vanilla, and coconut, this fresh apple cake is truly a delight. It tastes even better with the heavenly buttermilk glaze on top. As soon as you remove the cake from the oven, pour the sauce over it and let it sink into the cake for an hour before inverting the cake. Not all cakes have to be light and fluffy. The denseness of this cake is what attracted me to this recipe. I think this would make a great breakfast cake. I like the fact that there is nuts and coconut in this cake and the buttermilk glaze which is poured over it look absolutely scrumptious. I will definitely be making this in the new year.
