I grew up on apple strudel. My mother made it often and it was a staple in our house. My recipe is very similar, although I make the pastry from scratch. Puff pastry is a great substitute if you are pressed for time, as it works very well. I always use cinnamon, raisins and chopped toasted walnuts in my recipe.
