This carving board is almost too beautiful to use. The Black Walnut Trencher Board from Kaufmann Mercantile is a sloped cutting board with a trench designed to catch drippings when carving meat, fruit, and other foods. When working with foods like juicy chicken or ripe watermelon, it becomes difficult to cut without working in a puddle of liquid. The Black Walnut Trencher is designed to keep juices off the table.
This cutting board is the kind of product that you keep forever and pass down to your children. Not only does it have a sleek, classic look, it also works great! Having to "drain" off a cutting board while working is a hassle, and this board eliminates that problem. All the juices settle in the dip at the bottom of the board so you have room to work on a clear surface. Plus, the board can also be flipped over for a flat cutting surface.
The thing I like best about the Black Walnut Trencher Board is that its sleek design makes it pretty enough to use for serving food, such as cheese or other appetizers. If you're cutting a pot roast, for example, you could simply leave the meat on the board to be served. I would also leave this out on my kitchen counter as a modern-looking kitchen addition.
It's not often that you come across a cutting board worth $89, but I'd say the high quality of this modern-day kitchen addition is worth it. The website explains what makes these boards so special. "The independent woodworker who makes these boards opened a factory, which currently employs eight full time and four part-time craftsmen who make products for his kitchenwares store. Some of the craftsmen have been with him for over 25 years, evidence that this kind of quality evinces loyalty."
As far as cutting boards go, this one is at the top of my list for its looks and functionality. The Black Walnut Trencher Board is a great addition to any modern-day kitchen.
