Apple Butter by Cecilia

Ingredients
- 4 quarts apples, peeled, thinly sliced
- 4 cups sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 3 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 to 3/4 cup cider vinegar
- 1 dash salt
Instructions
1. Mix everything in slow cooker and cook on low for 12-14 hours. Leave in slow cooker and mix with mixer.
2. Turn on high and get boiling hot. Keep on high while filling jars.

I always thought you needed to let the steam escape so it would cook some of the liquid down and it would thicken, am i wrong? Can it get thick with the lid on? Will try this and see.

It looks like the recipe has been updated now so that ALL the ingredients have the right quantities. I thought 4 apples seemed a little light.

Does anyone know what amount of cinnamon to use? It just says "3" without saying teaspoons, sticks, or whatever. Also, has anyone tried this recipe using Splenda? Thanks for your help.
