Ingredients
- 2 1/4 tsps (1 pkg) dry yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 3 cups warm milk
- 1 Tbl butter
- 1 tsp cardamon powder
- 1 tsp salt
- zest from 1 lemon
- 4 1/2 cups flour
- 2 cups raisins
Instructions
Dissolve yeast and sugar in a small amount of warm water. In a very large bowl (to allow for rising): Beat 2 eggs and the 1/4 c sugar well. Add the milk, butter, cardmon, salt and lemon zest and mix well. Mix in flour and raisins. It should be the consistency of a thick batter. Cover and let rise for 2 1/2 to 3 hours in a warm place. Drop by soupspoonfuls into hot vegatable oil and fry until golden brown turning as necessary. Drain on papertowels. Cool slightly and dip into granulated sugar and eat while warm.
