Salt Rising Bread
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup scalded, cooled milk
- 2 tablespoons cornmeal
- 1 C scalded milk
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 Tbl molasses
- 3 Tbl oil
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 2 1/2 cups white flour
Instructions
Mix together milk and cornmeal. Let stand, covered, in a warm place for 24 hours. It should be bubbly. Stir together milk, salt, molasses, oil and flour. Add corn meal mixture. Stir in enough white flour to knead, about 2 1/2 C. Knead about 5 minutes. Form one loaf and grease the top. Place in a greased loaf pan. cover, let rise until double. Time required will vary. Bake at 375 deg for about 35 minutes.
