Fried Southern Heaven
Fried recipes are true southern food greats. It doesn't get much more southern than this recipe for Fried Southern Heaven. The mixture of okra, onion, tomatoes and corn meal all fried up, makes for perfect soul food recipes.
Ingredients
- 1/2 pound okra
- 4 green tomatoes
- 1 onion
- 1 cup yellow corn meal
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill
- 1/2 tablespoon parsley
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 cups milk
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Cut up okra, green tomatoes, and onions and soak in bowl of milk 10 min.
- Place corn meal, and spices in large kitchen bag. After soaking, place vegetables in bag and shake.
- Place in hot oil and fry till a golden brown, stirring regularly. Removed from oil and let try on paper towel.

I like the name of this recipe and also that it's great for vegetarians. To make it vegan, rice milk, almond milk, cashew milk etc. could be used in place of regular milk I think . I've been making rice milk at home lately and I find that the crushed rice solids that remain after straining off the milk would work really well in this recipe, if cornmeal isn't available.
