I have never heard of the term "preacher cake" but have seen cakes with these ingredients before. The cake looks and sounds delicious. It has all the ingredients that I really like and easy to put together. I will probably make a pan sized although the layer version is tempting. All that cream cheese frosting! Yum! Thank you for the recipe.

I am totally drooling while reading this recipe! It sounds an awful lot like the Hummingbird Cake that my Aunt always makes (the author notes that this is her personal spin on that type of cake.) I would love to give this a whirl because I LOVE Hummingbird Cake, but my hubby is not so fond of the banana notes. I think that this would be a good compromise for both of us. It really looks moist an delicious. You certainly can't go wrong with coconut! I think this will be my new potluck go-to recipe.

I remember this cake from when I was a child. I had an aunt who made it and it was such a treat! When I make it I will leave out the coconut. I like coconut, but my family members do not. I can't wait to make this I know it will be wonderful!

I think cherries or raisins are good substitutes for pineapples in this recipe. Sunflower seeds or crushed peanuts should work well in place of walnuts too. Another suggestion for replacing the walnuts is crushed pumpkin seeds. It's also okay to just leave the walnuts out completely, add another fruit and have a more fruity than nutty cake!

This looks like a really delicious cake. I was wondering if you could substitute peanuts or sunflower seeds for the walnuts. My daughter is allergic to tree nuts, but I would love to adapt this recipe so that we could still make it. Do you think it would change the flavor too much?

I love this recipe and I love the story behind the name even more! My family loves anything with crushed pineapple and this looks like a nice variation on carrot cake. Its true, you're likely to have all these ingredients on hand, so it could be whipped up in a jiffy. I really love that the recipe gives options to make it as different sized cakes and even muffins. Yum!!

This is a wonderfully simple and tasty recipe. My wife and daughter love pineapple, though I'm not a huge fan. Not sure why, either. So, I'm curious if anyone has experimented with a fruit other than pineapple in this recipe. Since I have other family members who enjoy pineapple and things incorporating pineapple, I'm sure I'll make this.

Wow I have to make this cake. Of course I love anything topped with cream cheese frosting but this cake itself looks good enough even without that. I was surprised to see that it contains a can of pineapple undrained but it obviously works. Combined with the nuts and coconut must be such a nice flavor.

I was wondering if you could substitute peanuts for the walnuts? I know it won't have the same flavor, but my daughter is allergic to tree nuts, but she loves coconut and pineapple desserts, especially cakes. Would I be able to omit all the nuts if I cannot replace them? Thanks a bunch!

Pineapple imparts a nice sweet taste and moistness to this cake. And cream cheese frosting is one of my favorites. I don't make it all that much because I don't always have cream cheese on hand. But, it makes and cake taste decadent.

I know! It's really delicious! Did you read that the creator/blogger made this up from her Hummingbird cake recipe? That's a pretty good upgrade she did! You don't find too many good coconut desserts at the grocery store. You have to make your own if you want a good one!
