Simple New Orleans Red Beans and Rice

Ingredients
- 1 package red kidney beans
- 1 large onion diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound smoked sausage (sliced 1/2 inch thick)
- 4 slices raw bacon (diced)
- 2 whole bay leaves
- 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
- 2 tablespoons salt
- 1 tablespoon pepper
- 1/4 cup parsley, chopped
- 6 or 8 cups water
- 2 cups cooked white rice
Instructions
- Combine all above ingredients using 6 cups water in slow cooker.
- Cook on high for at least 6 hours. Serve over white rice.

I live in south Louisiana and cook red beans all the time. No I don't put that much salt. I add 1 teaspoon to the pot. If it is not salty enough you add salt to your own plate! And don't add the cooked white rice to the slow cooker. Serve the cooked beans on the white rice.

2 tablespoons of salt is terrible, that's over 2,000 milligrams No wonder people have high blood pressure and have heart attacks at a young age.
