Satay (grilled Skewered Meat)

"Satay is a beloved dish known for its smoky, charred flavours and tender, marinated meat skewered and grilled to perfection. This versatile dish can be made with chicken, beef, lamb, or even tofu for a vegetarian twist. The key lies in the marinade, which blends soy sauce, garlic, ginger, turmeric, and a touch of palm sugar for a balance of sweet and savoury. Allow the meat to soak in this mixture for at least 2 hours, or overnight for deeper flavor. Grilling Satay takes only about 10–15 minutes, making it a quick yet impressive dish to prepare. It’s traditionally cooked over charcoal, giving the skewers their signature smoky aroma, but a grill pan or oven broiler works well too. The magic of Satay is incomplete without its accompanying peanut sauce, a creamy blend of roasted peanuts, coconut milk, lime juice, and spices. Serve the skewers hot, generously drizzled with the peanut sauce, and garnish with fresh cilantro and chopped peanuts for an added crunch. Pair with steamed rice or ketupat (rice cakes) for an authentic Indonesian experience. To elevate your Satay, soak the skewers in water before grilling to prevent burning, and brush them with the marinade during cooking for added flavor. For a burst of freshness, add a squeeze of lime or serve with acar (pickled vegetables) on the side. Whether for a casual meal or a festive gathering, Indonesian Satay is a dish that delights with every bite."
