This is a wonderful and easy to make side dish. I agree that using a rice cooker does make it easier than using pots, but it's still feasible to make this in a pot, though you have to pay closer attention to it than using a rice cooker. I can see making this into a quick lunch by stirring in some cooked ground beef or grilled steak cut into bite-sized pieces.
