Scones Basic Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 4 1/2 tsps baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 25g (1 oz) butter
- about 1 cup milk
Instructions
Sift dry ingredients, rub in butter (until mixture resembles fine crumbs), and mix to a soft dough with milk. (Make sure the dough doesn't go too sticky.) Knead on a lightly floured board; roll out, cut into squares or use a round cutter, place on a lightly greased or floured oven tray and bake in a hot oven 230 degrees C or 450 degrees F, for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. FRUIT SCONES Add 1/2 cup fruit (sultanas, currants, dates etc) and 1 desertspoon sugar to dry ingredients and continue as for plain scones.
