I love beer batters for almost anything, but I was wondering if you have to use the ale in this or could you use any kind of beer you wanted? I have friends that would love this recipe and others that would want it with some Guinness in it. What does the 30 minutes break do after coating the onions?

I absolutely love onion rings. I'll order them at any restaurant if they have them on the menu. Sometimes they're great and sometimes I'm quite disappointed. This recipe sounds fabulous and I really want to try it out. The Southern BBQ sauce is great sounding, too. I'm not one for dipping onion rings in BBQ sauce, but I can see slathering this concoction on burgers and other meats. Definitely worth making up and trying out.
