    15 Bean Soup

    This easy soup recipe shows you how to improve on a basic package of 15 bean soup with herbs, onion flakes and ham hocks. You can tailor this soup recipe to your tastes.

    Ingredients

    • 1 package 15 bean soup
    • 2 water
    • onion flakes (to taste)
    • garlic flakes (to taste)
    • 2 Tbsp fine herbs
    • 3 chopped ham
    • packet of seasoning from bag

    Instructions

    Soak beans overnight per instructions on package. In the morning, drain and put into a large (I have a 5 qt.) slow cooker. Add 2 quarts water. Add ham hocks if desired (I did not). Cook on high for 3 hours. Add onion flakes (to taste). Add Garlic flakes (to taste). Add 2 Tbsp fine herbs. Add 3 cups chopped ham. Cook on low for 6 hours or until beans are tender. Add packet of seasoning from bag one hour before serving.

    I added frozen stew vegetables and it made a great variation to a basic soup.

    I usually add a can of tomato soup and a can of diced tomatos :) adds a nice flavor along with the ham and spices.a dash of chili powder too.
