Bean & Onion Bake
Ingredients
- 3 cups sliced onion
- 1/3 cup butter
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
- dash pepper
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese, (about 1/4 pound)
- 3 cups green beans, cooked crisp tender and drained
- 2 tablespoons fine dry breadcrumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon marjoram
Instructions
Saute onion slices in butter until they are limp. Blend in flour, salt, mustard, and pepper. Add milk and stir constantly until mixture thickens. Blend in 3/4 cup cheese. Fold in green beans. Turn into shallow 2-quart casserole. Combine and mix remaining 1/4 cup cheese, bread crumbs, and marjoram. Sprinkle mixture over the top. Place in 350 oven for 30 minutes or until thoroughly heated. Serves 10.
